Although salary is the very heart of negotiation when you are offered a new job, other things are essential to building up your package :

  • Target the different items that are important for you: company car, mutual, lunch vouchers, computer, phone, planned salary increase, paid holidays, arrival bonus, location support, complementary retirement bonus, home office, etc.
  • Do not be excessive: take into account your employer’s limitations, be realistic in your expectations.
  • Talk about it at the right time, preferably at the moment of the salary negotiation and necessarily before the contract is written. You might annoy the employer if you ask for new elements after having found an agreement.

And above all, be prepared: think about the benefits the company will get from your expectations, and have solid and objective arguments!
